2024 Meaningful Career Conversations Trainings

Are you ready to empower job seekers through meaningful career exploration and build your leadership skills as a trusted career advisor?

Join CEI, in partnership with the Colorado Department of Education and Colorado Career Advising, for FREE Meaningful Career Conversations trainings.

These trainings are designed for ANYONE in a position to provide guidance to those seeking to enter the workforce, pursue a specific career path, or change careers (now or in the future) and are centered on fostering hopeful and robust futures.

Trainers will lead participants through content, peer-to-peer career conversation practices, reflection exercises, and demonstrations of career-focused tools that can be used across settings and career sectors. Participants will have opportunities to engage in a variety of topical resources and guides to help them to develop the skill sets, confidence, and understanding to support people in pursuing new career opportunities and pathways.

Trainings Provide:

  • An introduction to the Meaningful Career Conversations framework.
  • An understanding of what it means to be a career advisor in Colorado.
  • Engagement in a variety of tools and resources, including the Colorado Career Advising tool.
  • Opportunities to reflect and practice career conversations with peers.
  • Instruction to best prepare advisors to invite and lead Meaningful Career Conversations.
  • Continuing education credits.

NEW 90-Minute Training for Experienced Academic and Career Advisors

This new training is designed for experienced academic and career advisors interested in expanding their expertise in facilitating complex career conversations. Participants will further explore how to use the Colorado Career Advising Tool with advisees to identify strengths and motivators and create personalized career action plans.

This professional development opportunity provides continuing education credits for participants.

  • June 6, 10 – 11:30 a.m. MDT

90-Minute Condensed Training Sessions for Families and Community Members

These condensed trainings are designed to support families, caregivers, and community members to engage young people to think about, and plan for, a thriving and hopeful future.

Participants will learn about a variety of tools and resources that can enhance their advising practices and empower them to confidently serve as a resource for the young people and career seekers in their lives.

Looking for expanded professional development training to further develop your skills as a career advisor?

Our four-hour training expands on all components of the 90-minute trainings and includes extended time for deeper engagement in training materials and additional opportunities to practice and refine your career conversation skills with peers. 

(Please note that the minimum number of participants for an in-person session is 25 and 15 for a virtual session.)

School districts, schools, community groups, and organizations can request additional in-person or virtual session dates for either training option using the interest form below.

Sessions can also be customized for specific audiences, including: School counselors, school staff (Staff who are not counselors. Ex. teachers, coaches, etc.), families and caregivers, community center supporters, industry and business partners, and faith communities.

Please note that the minimum number of participants for an in-person session request is 25 and 15 for a virtual session request.

History of the Colorado Career Advisor Training Program

In 2019, as an education leadership council initiative, Colorado developed a first-in-the-nation model, the Colorado Career Conversations Training project, to train career advisors across systems.

In the 2022 legislative session, the Colorado General Assembly passed Senate Bill 22-165 to continue the Colorado Career Advisor Training Program through 2025.

These trainings are made possible through a partnership of the Colorado Department of Education, Colorado Education Initiative, and Colorado Career Advising.
