My experience in education was a painful, frustrating journey. I rebelled and defied. It affected not just me, but my parents and teachers as well. It became my purpose to help students, staff, families, and administrators, understand that what feels like conflict and defiance might just be a language that we do not comprehend. Finding the way to meet students where they are, uncover their passion, and unleash potential fuels my work.
About my Innovation Fellows project:
My solution is to provide school-wide character development curriculums, delivered in a way that accesses the true person, not just the academic aspect. Experiential learning opportunities, workshops, peer mentorships, parents/family support and community connections get us out of our seats and into the adventure of creating resilient and confident citizens.
When I’m not working you will find me…
On the river, in the hills, and far away.
Three words my friends would use to describe me are…
Loyal, driven, and a little over the top sometimes.
My favorite quote is…
“Ships are safe in port…but that is not what ships are for.”
This reminds me that what we learn, who we are and why we are here isn’t meant for simply acquiring knowledge. It is meant to be used, expressed and tested by living a courageous life, far away from the shores where we began.
