Save the Dates for the Fall Professional Development Series

A CEI professional development series, Classroom Management Matters: A Social and Emotional Learning Approach, will be presented this fall by and author Gianna Cassetta.

During the workshop, K-8 educators will develop a deep understanding of social emotional competencies and a vision for a holistic approach to classroom practices that will support every student, even those who struggle the most.

Topics include:

  • The five social and emotional competencies.
  • Why children typically misbehave.
  • Child development and its impact on behavior.
  • The three main strands of effective classroom management: relationships, rules and procedures, and engaging instructions.
  • Planning for students with high behavioral needs.

Save the Dates for SpaceLab Networking Sessions August 6 and September 17

CEI is hosting the Seeing is Believing tour throughout the 2015-16 school year. Save the dates to join the next tours: Thursdays, August 6 and September 17. Learn more or RSVP to a session by emailing the Next Generation Learning team.

In May, the team’s tour hosted Designing for Innovation Networking with educators from six schools in three districts. They learned about creative storytelling from Denver nonprofit Art from Ashes, experienced the design process, and developed prototypes to test in their schools using feedback from colleagues.

Summer Pre-AP Training Offered in Colorado

The National Math + Science Initiative (NMSI) is hosting Pre-AP Laying the Foundation training in Colorado this summer. The training is open to middle and high school teachers and provides tools and techniques to help prepare students for AP coursework. Registration is $725 per person.

Eighteen Colorado STEM programs submitted applications to join the Colorado STEMworks Database. Industry and state volunteers are reviewing the applications. Programs accepted into the database will be announced at the Wednesday, July 22, STEM Champions Board meeting.
