The program has granted more than $250,000 in awards over the past six years. With the support of The Colorado Health Foundation, schools have received awards ranging from $300 to $7,500 per school. In 2016, Lake County Intermediate School was recognized with the Platinum Governor’s Award for School Health and Wellness.
We know that physical activity helps kids stay focused in the classroom, so we started making small changes to integrate physical activity by making classroom brain breaks mandatory. Our awesome PE teacher supported our teachers with resources, along with fun and easy brain break activities they could do indoors. Our classroom behavioral issues have gone down by just giving our students these breaks they need to be their best.
